Heart Internet dedicated server iPhone control panel launched

Our web hosting and reseller hosting customers have been enjoying using their iPhone web hosting control panel for some time now and we felt our dedicated server customers were missing out. So we have gone ahead and fixed that!

All our dedicated server customers can now manage their server on the go with our dedicated server iPhone (and Android) control panel.  All functionality is the same and the control panel has been optimised for the smaller screen and mobile access.

To log in, simply go to your normal log in page using an iPhone and once you enter your details you will automatically be taken to our dedicated server iPhone control panel. From here you can perform all the actions you could if you were sat at your desk top, including:

Server Reboot
You can reboot your server any time you like. Just visit the “Manage Dedicated Servers” area of your control panel and click the real time reboot option. This will perform a hardware reboot (power cycle the server).

Add IP Addresses
We setup one IP address as standard and you can add another for free by clicking the option in the “Manage Dedicated Servers” area of your control panel. (If you need more IP addresses after that you can buy these for £12 each per year.)

Bandwidth Graphs
We automatically graph your server’s traffic usage so that you can see how busy your server is.

Reselling dedicated servers
The Dedicated Server Control Panel allows anyone to resell Dedicated Servers with features such as bandwidth graphs and server reboots and pass on the management of these features to their customers via our white label Dedicated Server Control Panel.

The Dedicated Server Control Panel is personalised to each Reseller, including logos and contact details. Even the web address to access the Control Panel can be customised using one of your domain names. Resellers can choose which features are in their Control Panel.

Signing up as a dedicated server reseller is completely free and you only pay for the server itself. We don’t charge any administration costs or set up fees to ensure your margin levels are as high as possible.

Back up your website & database

Backing up your website is a lot like buying insurance, you know you should but it’s one of those things you put off because nothing has happened yet which surely means you don’t need it. But on one of those rare times when your site has a critical failure and loses some or all of your data, you’ll soon wish you had!

Shared and reseller hosting

Backing up your website is really quick and easy and completely free through your eXtend control panel. To make sure you always have the latest version of your site we strongly recommend you back up your website using this facility whenever you make a change to your website.

Backing up your website files:
- Log in to your eXtend control panel
- In ‘files’ click on ‘backup/ restore’
- Follow the on screen instructions

Backing up your database
As with our web files back up service through eXtend, you can also back up your MySQL databases in eXtend with just one click!
- Log in to your eXtend control panel
- In ‘Web tools’ click on ‘MySQL Databases’
- In ‘Manage MySQL Databases’ choose which databases you want to back up and click ‘Now’

You can also download and store a local copy of your database through phpMyAdmin using the ‘Export’ function.

Backing up your website and databases literally takes a couple of clicks of the mouse and can save a lot of pain and heartache down the line! Why not setup a reminder on your phone or in Outlook so you don’t forget to run a backup.

Dedicated servers

Dedicated servers are a completely different beast to shared hosting, offering much more freedom and capabilities, however, there also comes a greater emphasis on personal responsibility with the software being run on your dedicated server. Essentially, we provide the hardware and connectivity and what you then do with it is your choice.

In the same way we offer cPanel as a paid extra to administer your server (which also comes with a back up function), we offer back up services for dedicated servers for only £10 a month for 10GB space or £50 a month for 100GB space which is peanuts in the grand scheme of things. To order the backup service simply go the ‘add-ons’ area in your customer control panel

Whether you choose to go with one of our backup solutions or you choose your own, we strongly recommend you back up your website whenever you make a change to it.

To go dedicated or not to go dedicated?

The decision to choose a dedicated server is one that most website managers will have to make at some point in their careers when they see their website traffic or the complexity of their site increase . A dedicated server brings with it the level of freedom that you don’t get with any other website hosting option, offering you unlimited bandwidth, endless options for customisation and the chance to use it as you see fit. With a dedicated server you’re not sharing the server with any other websites. It’s your server to use as you see fit and to install whatever software, applications and macros that you need.

You will not be able to do this with shared hosting, virtual hosting or any other web hosting environment. With a dedicated server you have the physical server to use, even though it is stored in the hosting company’s secure environment. It’s as if you have the server in your possession.

However, with that control comes responsibility. When you have a dedicated server you also have the problem of being responsible for everything that is installed on it. If something goes wrong, such as corruption of files, if it contracts a virus of if it gets hacked, it will be down to you to solve the problem.

Dedicated servers should only be taken out by those with the skill and experience to run them properly. At Heart Internet we can advise on the running of a dedicated server and offer you alternatives, such as reseller hosting, should you not be ready for a dedicated server at this stage.

We have recently become a cPanel partner and we can now install cPanel and Web Host Manager on any of our Linux Dedicated Servers for just £20 per month. This includes us installing the software and an unlimited domain license.

Web Host Manager allows just about anyone to manage a server, it takes care of all the server side configuration and services. cPanel allows you or your customers to manage their website including mail, logs, stats, security, databases and more.
