Any details on how to manage a secure VPS / Server? On going advice in managing it, how to set it up as a secure server for multiple client uses?
Hi Neil,
Great questions, we’re working on the support articles for VPS as we speak. If you already have a VPS, you can submit feedback via your dashboard. We’ll keep you updated!
Jenni
Hi,
What frequency do the virtual CPU’s run at?
Thanks,
Chris
Hi Chris,
They run at 2.53 GHz.
Hope that helps!

Good Post . Nice technical post
Hi Jenny,
Like many on shared hosting, I’m very interested in looking at VPS. – as I can see the benefits.
I’ve looked at everything HI have published so far on VPS, but I still have huge gaps in my understanding. I have looked for a “VPS for Dummies” type manual – but have yet to find one.
Although I use the HI Reseller package, I simply use it to host multiple sites that I build for my (mainly SOHO) customers, rather than resell. So for HI customers like me, moving to VPS is a big step that appears to have a rather steep learning curve.
I think HI could help persuade customers like me to move yo VPS quicker, if you put together some kind of “upgrade” guide for us. It would focus more on the practical differences of configuration and management of web sites using HI shared hosting versus VPS, rather than re-document the existing VPS marketing material.
For example, it would aim to detail the common steps used to establish a site using shared hosting and then highlight how that would differ using VPS – e.g. what extra decisions/steps/work is involved and explain the differences between the shared hosting control panel and those offered by VPS. A practical migration guide would be very useful – to show how to move my shared hosting sites across to VPS.
I’d be interested to hear you views on my suggestion and would appreciate any pointers on any suggestions for a “VPS for Dummies” manual you may have.
Thanks,
Greg
Greg,
Thanks for getting in touch and for your feedback.
Our VPS are completely self managed (apart from network or hardware issues which we look after) which means you need a certain level of knowledge to be able to manage one, much like you would a dedicated server. VPS are not simply a more powerful version of shared hosting, they are more complicated to manage. However if you want to use a VPS, adding a GUI control panel such as cPanel removes a lot of the boundaries.
I’m not keen on creating a “VPS for dummies” guide because we don’t want to put people on to a VPS who don’t need one and then see them struggle.
