Heart Internet resellers can now quickly back up multiple websites with our new control panel feature. We’ve had a lot of requests for this functionality, so it should be pretty popular!
How to back up websites
You can back up multiple websites in just a couple of clicks – click here to get started.
We’ve also been asked how to bulk back up MySQL databases for customers – you can do this by going to the MySQL Databases Backup page.
Why use backups?
Backing up websites on a regular basis is just good practice. The most common problem website owners experience when making changes to a website is not backing up their files before committing changes, in case anything goes wrong. Those who have backed up their website when a new script pulls everything down can restore their previous version in minutes. Those who didn’t will have that sinking feeling as they realise all their work is potentially lost! As well as self-inflicted problems (which are by far the most common), backing up your websites is essential to offset the headache of data loss in a worst case scenario, such as a website being hacked through stolen passwords.
5 ways to limit data loss
1. Keep regular backups of websites (download the zip files via your control panel).
2. Store backups on at least two different hard drives.
3. Make sure you keep any scripts/software you’ve installed up to date (particularly for security patches).
4. Keep a record of all the scripts you’ve installed for each of your own websites – especially if you have websites which you rarely update – so you don’t forget upgrades.
5. Ensure your customers understand the importance of backing up their files and websites on a regular basis.

This is GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep up the good work guys…
Now all we need is Joomla/Virtuemart one click installation and magento
Why does it say on some to use eXtend
This feature allows you to back up several websites at once, with the exception of any unusually large websites which you will need back up individually in eXtend.
Any chance of an automated backup procedure? To our own remote ftp location, or similar?
But great feature extension.
Love this update – so handy!
Excellent news! … How about automation of the service – is this possible? Perhaps by CRON or something?
I look forward to any update!
Thanks.
Great Feature, well done HI.
Just an idea though, how about having the mysql and data backup in one screen?
E.g domain1 – backup data + sql (one package)
Thanks for all the feedback on this
This sounds great, but don’t you already backup all web hosting once every 24 hours or so – every night?
@Ian – We do run automated backups of customer’s websites but as a reseller you could consider offering backups too in case something happens to their website, self inflicted or not, in between ours.
Automation will be great!
Nice one HI…
I agree with Davide…a one click Magento install would be spiffing
This is a great feature, however manually backing up 30/40 clients every night is very time consuming and also uses a lot of disk space on the computer your using – I would love to see an automated system to do this via FTP or to a paid heart backup service.
Any news on the automation of this?
Say we enter that we want the automation to occur once a week on Sunday at midnight, we can come into work Monday with a backup all done and dusted.
Be good to have this for mysql too.
Also can we not include bigger sites, maybe make it up to 500mb?
