html-cssFollowing on from our previous online marketing blog sneeze, in this post we are going to look back at our web design blog posts. Below are some great tips HTML/ CSS tips and links to web design resources for you to apply to your website…

If you want to fit a large amount of copy into a small amount of space (e.g. showing snippets from your blog posts or testimonials on your home page ) or you don’t want your site visitors to be scrolling down and down and down… (e.g. you have lengthy terms and conditions) you can display all this content within a scrollable box using the ‘overflow’ property, and this post about creating scrollable content using CSS explained how.

This very popular blog post demonstrates how to create a drop shadow background effect for your website, using only a single image and some CSS. Not only is a drop shadow effect simple to create (only a few lines of code) but it also adds a new dimension to your site and can really make your content stand out. Give it a go!

Here we showed how to create navigation for your website using CSS and a single image so there’s no loading times for the rollover states, resulting in smoother transitions and super fast navigation!

Our article “Create rounded corners with one image” showed how you can make expandable rounded corners with CSS. This method requires only 6 HTML tags and one background image (yes, ONE image for all 4 corners!). It also validates, works across all the major browsers, and looks great in your source code.

Ricky recently put together a great list of open source graphic and web design alternatives to their more expensive cousins, including free alternatives to Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator. It has already become one of our most read articles in 2009!

Our most recent web design related blog post was our top 25 WordPress plug-ins to add to your blog. Thanks to comments from our readers a couple more really useful plug-ins have been added to the list, so it’s more of a top 32 now.

P.S. If you are a designer, create our next Computer Arts magazine advert and see it published, as well as winning a MacBook Pro and free hosting for a year.
