How often do you back up your website?

We have updated our back up facility within eXtend so that larger sites can now backup their sites quickly and with the minimum of fuss. We would strongly recommend backing up your site at least once a week to ensure you are not susceptible to any data loss.

Using eXtend to back up your site is so easy there really is no excuse not do it. All you have to do is log in to your Heart Internet customer area and access your eXtend control panel. Once you are in eXtend click on “Backup/ restore” found in the “File” section. From here you can choose to create a full back up of your site of pick and choose from your list of directories with just a click of the mouse. This will download your website as a zip file to your computer. Job done!

    Thanks for the useful article.

Are there any plans for HI to implement a way of scheduling auto backups? Or can anyone recommend a good auto website backup scrip that will work with the HI servers?

    Thanks

This isn’t something that can be done at the moment but it is certainly an idea we are going to look at.

Would be great to be able to backup websites to “Heart Drive” through CP also would be great to enable backup of customer websites through reseller control panel. Just a bit food for thought – Is a service “extra” I would contribute to.

Excellent idea by G Miller – I think scheduling (if possible) back ups straight to heart drive would be an amazing feature to have available

One lesson I’ve learned not to long ago in just how important backups are – Few months ago our web host SiteFusion3000 lost our files – Our site along with the contents vanished of the Internet. We had to recreate the whole thing all over again and waste 5 weeks and almost 3k on rebuilding from scrach. I highly recommend using an automated backup solution to stay safe. Or at least do periodical backups. If you are running a web based business you should always make sure you have a backup.

  7. I’m a reseller and I’ve been working on some shell scripts to automate backing up clients sites. Not fully completed yet, but I’m working on it.
